Happy (belated) World AIDS Day!

So, yesterday was World AIDS Day, and I have had mixed feelings about the issues some people have pushed for. Namely, a cure.

While I'm all for hope and advancements in health, I get the feeling that a cure for AIDS would only up the frequency of unprotected sex. Prevention is meant to be better than cure, but let's be frank: if there was a cure for HIV-AIDS, would you, or wouldn't you boink more liberally? Barring pregnancy, I do think we would. We're a rather dogged species, especially when we find something we really like.

It may seem harsh, but sometimes the threat of HIV-AIDS is all that keeps some people from engaging in unrestrained nymphomania. If the cure is used to save people who are dying from it, you have a good thing there, but if made available to the public, who knows what society would degenerate to?

Once again, this has been the R.E. Porter, bringing you exclusive coverage of a philosopher's disjointed and sleep-besotted thoughts. Until the next time.

  1. Even with HIV, people are still out there having sex. They're using condoms and going at it like rabits. HIV or No HIV, humans will continue to roll in the hay and I say huzzah to that. Sex is good. People need to get off their high seats and experience its wonders and quit treating it like a sin. I do however think it should be enjoyed sensibly.

I push for a cure for HIV. Especially since, like hepatitis, sex is not the only way one can get it. Have mercy on the people receiving organs and blood transfusions, involved in accidents...

Gosh, the number of times I've delivered first AID at an accident scene and been splashed with peoples' blood....it stings to think that you would be okay with there not being a cure if I were unfortunate enough to get the virus while helping someone. Think of the hospital workers and lab technicians who have accidental exposure :(

We are going to Stop the AIDS no matter what, be it by developing a cure, or by phasing it out by educating people and providing access to prophylactics so they are safe.

  2. Well... that's me told now, innit? :(

Thanks for the wake-up call. Lesson learned. "Never be in a rush to write an article when you are sleep-drunk and/or are in a hurry to meet a deadline."

Guess I still got a ways to go... :P Can't afford to post irresponsibly like this again.

OK, I'm outta here before this becomes a pity post.
